GENETIC TESTING · NORTH MIAMI, FL

Stop Guessing. Let Your DNA Guide Your Treatment.

Psychiatric genetic testing (pharmacogenomics) analyzes your unique DNA to predict how your body metabolizes psychiatric medications — eliminating the costly trial-and-error process that leaves many patients suffering for months. At Assertive Comprehensive Care, we use clinically validated genetic testing to match you with medications that are most likely to work for your biology from day one.

THE SCIENCE OF PERSONALIZED PSYCHIATRY

What Is Psychiatric Genetic Testing?

Pharmacogenomics is the study of how your genes affect your response to medications. At ACC, we use clinically validated genomic panels to analyze the enzymes your liver uses to metabolize psychiatric drugs — giving your psychiatrist precise, actionable data to select medications that fit your biology rather than trial-and-error guessing.

🧪

Metabolizer Analysis

Identifies whether you are a poor, intermediate, normal, or ultra-rapid metabolizer of key psychiatric drug enzymes (CYP2D6, CYP2C19, CYP2C9). This directly determines how fast your body processes antidepressants, antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers.

💊

Drug-Gene Interactions

Reveals which specific medications are likely to be ineffective, cause side effects, or work optimally for your genetic profile. Covers SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, antipsychotics, benzodiazepines, and mood stabilizers — giving your psychiatrist a complete picture.

📋

Actionable Clinical Report

Results are delivered as a clinically actionable report reviewed directly with your ACC psychiatrist. No confusing raw data — just clear guidance on which medications are green, yellow, or red for your unique genetic profile, with a tailored treatment recommendation.

HOW IT WORKS

From Swab to Clarity — In Four Steps

01

Consultation

Your ACC psychiatrist reviews your treatment history and determines which genomic panel is most appropriate. Testing is ordered as part of your care plan — no separate appointment required.

02

Simple Cheek Swab

A simple, painless cheek swab is collected in-office in under two minutes. The sample is sent to our certified laboratory partner for full genomic analysis. No blood draw, no needles, no discomfort.

03

Lab Analysis

Our accredited laboratory analyzes relevant genetic markers including CYP2D6, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, SLC6A4, COMT, and others — covering the enzymes and receptors most clinically relevant to psychiatric medication selection and response prediction.

04

Results & Action Plan

Results are reviewed with your psychiatrist within 5–7 business days. You receive a clear, color-coded medication guide — green (use as directed), yellow (use with caution), red (avoid) — and an updated, personalized treatment plan built around your DNA.

WHY GENETIC TESTING MATTERS

Six Ways Genomic Testing Changes Your Treatment

🎯

Eliminate Trial & Error

Stop spending months on medications that your biology was never suited to metabolize. Genetic testing identifies incompatibilities before a single pill is prescribed.

Faster Symptom Relief

Research shows genetically guided prescribing reduces time to clinical response by up to 50% compared to standard trial-and-error approaches — meaning faster relief for you.

🛡️

Fewer Side Effects

Knowing your metabolizer status prevents toxic drug accumulation in poor metabolizers and sub-therapeutic dosing in ultra-rapid metabolizers — dramatically reducing preventable adverse effects.

🔬

Lifetime Value

Your genetics don’t change. The test is done once and its insights inform every psychiatric medication decision for the rest of your life — whether at ACC or with any future provider.

📈

Improved Adherence

Patients who understand why their medication was selected — backed by their own biological data — show significantly higher adherence rates and better long-term treatment outcomes.

🤝

Psychiatrist Partnership

Your ACC psychiatrist interprets results in the full clinical context of your case — not just a lab report. The genetic data informs, but your experienced psychiatrist always leads the decision-making.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything You Need to Know

Yes — many major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, cover psychiatric genetic testing when it is medically indicated. Coverage varies by plan and may require prior authorization. Our billing team verifies your coverage before the test is ordered so there are no surprises. Self-pay rates are also available. Call us at (305) 204-1209 for coverage questions.

Collection is done in-office with a simple cheek swab — a soft cotton swab gently rubbed against the inside of your cheek for about 30 seconds. There is no blood draw, no needles, and no discomfort. The sample is then sent to our certified laboratory partner for analysis. The entire collection process takes under two minutes.

Results are typically available within 5–7 business days from the date the sample reaches the laboratory. Your ACC psychiatrist will then schedule a follow-up appointment to review results with you in detail and update your treatment plan accordingly. Telehealth follow-up appointments are available for patients across Florida.

No. We welcome new patients specifically seeking genetic testing as part of their psychiatric care. A brief clinical consultation with one of our board-certified psychiatrists is required before testing is ordered to ensure the appropriate panel is selected and results are interpreted correctly within your clinical context.

Genetic testing provides critically important guidance — not a single definitive answer. It tells your psychiatrist which medications your body is likely to metabolize well, which may cause problems, and which are likely to be ineffective. This data, combined with your clinical history, symptoms, and your psychiatrist’s expertise, leads to the most informed medication decision possible.

The cheek swab collection must be done in-person at our North Miami clinic. However, the consultation before testing and the results review appointment can both be conducted via secure telehealth for patients across Florida. Our team will coordinate the logistics to make the process as convenient as possible for you.
